Olive Green Inanga Pounamu Ring size 8 1/2 or Q 1/2
Olive Green Inanga Pounamu Ring size US 8 1/2 or NZ Q 1/2. Pounamu is Aotearoa NZ Nephrite Jade.
I shaped and polished the pounamu off cut by hand, it sits on an off centred recycled sterling silver handmade band. I placed in this unusual position as I believe the off centred pounamu sits better on the finger. In the light this piece has rust coloured flecks in the olive green.
The Inanga variety of pounamu takes its name from inanga – a native freshwater fish (Galaxias maculatus). The young of this species are commonly known as whitebait. Inanga pounamu resembles the pale colour and transparency of the mata (young whitebait).
Inanga pounamu is described as pearly-white or grey-green, and varies from translucent to opaque. It can change colour over time, developing a light-olive tint as it ages and oxidises.
This is a size 8 1/2 or Q 1/2.
