Kete Aotearoa Silver Three Pence Ring 1936 - Size X 1/2 or 12
This is a Aotearoa NZ Silver 1936 Thruppence (Three Pence) Coin, with two crossed patu’s Size Size X 1/2 or 12.
I handmade into a hand fabricated sterling silver setting and Kete pattern band. I put the recycled very thick sterling silver through a rolling mill with a flax kete, which sort of squished, but gave a cool pattern. This ring is very heavy, solid and a lot of silver was used to make it.
Fun fact: Did you know that in the 1930’s and 40’s we had Aotearoa NZ Coins circulated made of 50% Silver? …. and they look amazing in a ring!
I have a few Silver Three Pence Coins Available various years 1936, 1942 or 1943 etc…., you choose your silver coin and type of custom made ring or pendant for you or a gift.
The Aotearoa three pence coin is a small silver coin that was minted from 1933 to 1965. It features the head of the reigning monarch on the obverse and two crossed patu (Māori short-handled clubs) on the reverse. The patu is a weapon in the form of a short club made of pounmu or bone; to symbolize the Māori culture and heritage of Aotearoa. The coin has a diameter of 16.3 mm and a weight of 1.41 g. It was replaced by the decimal 2.5 cent coin in 1967.
